Comments (0) | City manager Jim App has asked the City Council to defer his annual raise due to current economic constraints faced by the city, including uncertainty about how it will pay for its portion of the Nacimiento Water Project.
If had had taken the pay raise, App’s salary would go up to $164,120 annually.
In a letter to the council, App wrote that the faltering economy, state budget challenges and the ongoing debate over water rates all contribute to current fears about the city's fiscal picture.
“We have discussed these matters and together concluded that prudence dictates protection of financial resources and options. Deferral of pay increase is a logical next step,” App wrote.
The council will vote on the matter at its regular meeting Tuesday. The item is part of the consent agenda.
